Modem later appears on Vanguard’s ship having taken control of SuperPatriot and Wally causing them to attack Vanguard. When she tries to take over Lurch, Vanguard reveals that all the morphlings have a new chip designed to repel Modem. Vanguard places her into a stasis tube where he is able to revert her back into her original human form of Stacy Swan.
Stacy is kept prisoner on Vanguard’s ship until she is freed by Vanguard to help with the alien threat of the Tyrrus Combine. Vanguard allows her to return to her Modem form and the two of two of them begin to have a mutual respect for each other. She takes control of one of the enemies Mekka drones to find out critical information about the invasion. She also takes control of Amok who murders a hand full of the Tyrrus Combine. She then merges Wally and a Mekka Drone to create a firewall to prevent more Tyrrus Combine’s from entering Vanguard’s ship. She then abandons the group.
She then returns to Earth where she is drawn to the Powerhouse tower. There it is discovered that she did not actually abandon the group, but was inside a Mekka Drone and helped save Wally. However, in the process Wally ends up taking over her body. While in Modem’s body Wally communicates with one of the Tyrrus Combine ships which reverts Wally and Modem to their original bodies.
Modem decides to leave Earth and go with Vanguard and his crew as he heads back to his home planet of Kalyptus. When they enter the air space of Kalyptus the ships start to fall apart, but Modem is able to keep them together. She remains loyal to Vanguard when he decides to leave. When Vanguard returns to him home planet she is able to save Wally who had been captured. However, when the city she is in blows up to defeat Deathwatch, she doesn’t teleport with Vanguard. However, she survives and decides to go her own way and leaves Vanguard group until Wally can build a new teleporter.
