History

When Jennifer Murphy agreed to marry Dragon she contacted her old school best friend Gertie Funt to be her maid of honour. Gertie was unaware that a shape-shifter took Jennifer’s place at the wedding and was then killed before her eyes. She later returned for the true wedding of Dragon and Jennifer.

After Jennifer was left paralysed by Mister Glum enlarging Angel Dragon, she was left recovering in Hillman Hospital. Gertie came to her friend’s side and became obsessed with finding a way for her to walk again. She plastered articles about Dragon all over her apartment and had computer files detailing potential sources of gaining powers.

Dragon later found all of this evidence and believed that Gertie Funt had aided in Jennifer departing in search of powers, causing her to go missing for years. When Mutation first attacked Dragon, he was convinced that she was Gertie but this proved not to be the case. Although Jennifer’s fate was revealed, nothing is known about Gertie’s fate.

It is later discovered that Gertie Funk along with Helen Black seeked out the Power Broker. Gertie did so because she wanted revenge for the way Jennifer was treated as well as being jealous of Jennifer’s life. The Power Broker merges the two into one being, Mutation. When Negate touches Mutation, she reverts back to Gertie and Helen Black. Battle Axe then punches Gertie in half for raising her son without permission.
