History

R. Richard Richards ran the Chicago Voice newspaper, the publication that revealed the secret identity of the original Mighty Man, leading to the veteran hero’s death. When Dragon emerged as the city’s new protector, Richards saw him as a new target to bring down. He dedicated numerous articles and appeared on television, berating Dragon and demanding that he be fired as a police officer and arrested.

This campaign of hatred came to a head when Richards financed the creation of a robot known as the Dragon-Slayer. This construct was sent out to kill Dragon but did not last too long in the ensuing conflict. Richards’s part in this assault resulted in him getting arrested and sent to prison for years.

After serving his prison sentence, Richards returned to his campaign against Dragon, seizing on the fact that the hero had been seemingly killed by Virus and he was a monster disguised as Dragon. Virus soon cast aside the guise of Dragon who himself had returned, this time in his original persona of Emperor Kurr.

A new Dragon-Slayer was created but this time it would allow Richards to pilot the machine himself, allowing him to confront Dragon directly. He finally came face-to-face with Kurr as the villain faced off against the Dragon Army. Kurr proceeded to use Richards’s own Dragon-Slayer to kill off his doppelgangers. Richards refused to die without taking his enemy along with him and detonated his own battle-suit, dying in the resulting explosion.
