History

Lightning Bug was but one of many freaks created and then discarded by Johnny Redbeard over the years. She and a few other rejected young freaks banded together to form the Nixed Men, causing mayhem over a short period of time, mostly by beating up homeless people before setting them on fire. Dragon apprehended the Nixed Men who were later sent to the Mutate Manpower Management Service. The group were imprisoned here for a while before being liberated by Freak Force.

The Nixed Men joined up with Chelsea Nirvana’s army of freaks as she attempted to seize control of the Vicious Circle during the Gang War. Chelsea was defeated but her followers were folded into the criminal organization nonetheless. Lightning Bug was one of those villains dispatched by Horde to kill Dragon, only to be shrunk down using a Martian weapon, leaving her miniaturized for a couple of years.

Whilst the rest of her Vicious Circle comrades had been restored to normal, Lightning Bug had been dispatched to locate an injured and similarly shrunken Dragon to ensure that he was dead. Dragon coerced her into assisting him as he attempted to prevent the villains from regaining their original size. This plan failed and Lightning Bug was rejected as a traitor and left in her tiny state.

With little else to do, Lightning Bug was convinced by Dragon to try and reform, copying the actions made by her former Nixed Men teammate, Sensation, now called She-Dragon. She joined the Chicago division of the Special Operations Strikeforce to be reunited with her old friend and following in her footsteps by choosing a new codename, the Hornet. The Hornet served with the S.O.S. for a time but when DarkLord detonated the second Nega-Bomb, the wave struck the heroine and restored her to normal.

A couple of years later, the re-dubbed Lightning Bug rejoined her old teammates in the Nixed Men and returned to the service of Johnny Redbeard, now called the Creator. He dispatched them to attack Dragon for causing the deaths of the Homages but half of the Nixed Men were killed during the ensuing battle.

Lighting Bug is not seen for many years, however she is later seen fighting WildHair. After the Battle she talks to her former teammate Amy and considers joining the SOS. They later move to Toronto with the other members of the VC during the negation of Chicago
