Dataman was one of the Vicious Circle’s top scientists, first being called upon by OverLord when Frank Darling appeared to have returned from the dead to attack the villain. He identified the remains as having never been human, proving that the police officer had faked his death, having the shape-shifting robot Lurch take his place.

Years later when CyberFace’s body was unstable, following his first resurrection by the government’s Project: Born Again. He could not find a medical or scientific method to extend the life of his leader. This then led to the Undead being summoned to Chicago to find a supernatural means to accomplish this goal.

When a Martian shrinking weapon was found by Dragon, he fired it upon dozens of the Vicious Circle members. Dataman was one of those villains dispatched by Horde to kill Dragon and he was trapped in a miniaturised state for a couple of years. Dataman later combined his intellect with Octopus and OpenFace to use another shrinking gun to restore all of the tiny criminals to their natural state.

Many years later, the OverLord armour had been obtained by Octopus and OpenFace but they could not find a way to make its remote control look natural enough. Dataman was brought in to assist them in making improvements to the suit. He then betrayed his comrades and allowed a mysterious person to take the armour for themselves. Overlord III then proceeded to kill Dataman in order to preserve his secret identity.
